More about Trish
Hi! I’m Trish Leichty…
My love of the human body drew me to medical school 30 years ago, but my curiosity for life helped me leave several years later. I just couldn’t seem to accept the idea that to be a physician, I had to deny all the parts of myself that made me human… like being a mom, taking care of my body, and enjoying my free time.
Working over 100 hours a week in high stress conditions and then coming home to the demands of family began to take it’s toll. I became depressed, anxious, and physically ill and it was just a matter of time before I quit and chose instead to focus on raising my children.
Life definitely felt less stressful, but now I actually had time to feel and see the pain and dysfunction that I had created a marriage and family on. Trauma was not a word that was used at that time to describe anything but an extensive physical injury like a car crash or severe abuse. But the more time passed and other life events were pilled on, my underlying trauma began to surface.
I turned my former passion of healing others into a quest to heal myself and quickly discovered that traditional Western Medicine was only making me sicker. Thankfully, I was guided to nature, holistic care, and ancient practices like yoga, acupuncture, astrology, and breathwork. These modalities began to help me uncover deeply buried pain and trauma and through the healing of these I was able to experience radical freedom in my body and mind. Which led to transformation in the rest of my life.
From all that I was learning and experiencing, I began helping others in their healing journey eventually creating my own holistic coaching practice. Over the years I have added more education and training so that I am best able to serve from a trauma-informed, somatic perspective because I strongly believe that the body carries the innate wisdom and capacity for healing and it’s simply our job to understand what it needs to do so.
It is my lived experience, education, and passion that compels me to help as many people as possible be well and live well in mind, body, and soul and now I am honored to collaborate with Katie Schiffgen to create Breath and Body School so we can reach even more people with our shared mission. I offer coaching, breathwork, and astrology sessions virtually and in-person in Denver/Colorado Springs, Colorado.
For much of my life, I did not feel well in my mind, body, or soul. Even though I would have considered myself a health and wellness “expert”, this was not the experience I was having in my life. Through years of abuse, striving, and chronic illness, I began to ask hard questions of the beliefs that I had about what it means to be a woman and a human. Peeling back the layers of stories from family, culture, religion, and medicine I uncovered that everything I had believed had been untrue and that these false narratives were keeping me from knowing my deepest truths and living my bravest life.
In my memoir, I vulnerably invite you to join me in hungering for more than status quo and to begin to wonder what would be possible in our lives and world if we tore up the script and reimagined a story filled with brave truth, radical love, and unlimited freedom.
